949. Antique French Bronze Sculpture Allegory of the Vine Claude Clodion Barbedienne
An exceptionally well cast example of a Classical French patinated Bronze Figure of a young woman holding a bunch of grapes depicting “Allegory of the Vine” after Claude Michel Clodion (1738-1814) in nice dark patination. Mid Nineteenth Century.
Standing beside a naturalistic tree stump on its integral rectangular bronze base.
Clodion popularized this subject and created a number of variations of the theme, this offering is a very nice example.
Condition: Superb untouched condition, with Foundry marks at back of base F Barbedienne Fondeur. There is a circular hole at back of base, don’t know why! Please view images.
