Exquisite Pair of Hand Carved Giltwood Cantonese Chinese decorative wall panels of generous size, early Twentieth Century.
These stunning and quite rare panels are made from solid hardwood hand carved with an eighteen-karat matt real gold leaf finish. The intricate three-dimension carvings typically feature mounted warrior's figures, pavilions and foliage.
Story panels such as this were usually commissioned by family associations to bring the history and drama to a mostly illiterate population. They were displayed in large groups, often taking up entire walls or rooms.
Condition: Good condition with nice patination, no losses anywhere, possibly were never used.
