SUPERB EARLY BRONZE of BACCHUS
An Exceptionally Fine Quality Patinated Bronze Bust cast in high crisp relief of Bacchus by Claude Michel Clodion. Raised on a square stepped well veined period Sienna Marble base, supported by four ormolu toupie feet.
First quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
Bacchus “God of agriculture & wine” His hair adorned with ivy leaves and berries. His lover was Ariadne the daughter of King Minos of Crete.
Condition: Good untouched condition with no losses and very good surface patination to bronze. Foundry mark at back “CLODION” Two of the four feet are replacements.
