An Exceptional Japanese Kutani Porcelain Charger of impressive proportions, early Meiji Period (1868-1912).
Painted predominantly in iron red on a cream ground with lavish gilding. Four unusual shaped scenes depicting flowering shrubs, Japanese Families, village and lake scenes within a broad stylized border. The reverse with stylish sectional scrolling decoration each centered with a butterfly.
Condition: Superb condition for such an early piece, no losses to decoration. Base marks as shown in final image.
