HISTORY: Grondahl, a young sculptor originally worked for The Royal Copenhagan Factory. He became discruntled there because RC refused to go along with his suggestion that they make porcelain copies of the sculptures of Denmarks greatest sculptor at the time Bertel Thorvaldsen, who had died in 1844. Grondahl left Royal Copenhagen and together with the Bing Brothers (successful businessmen) started Bing & Grondhal in 1853. This rare piece with realistic articulation was one of their earliest pieces.
