John William Buxton Knight RDA RCA RE 1843-1908

Large and Impressive Impressionist Style Oil on Canvas by this highly acclaimed Nineteenth Century Artist.

The english subjest depicts figures on a winding walkway at sunset on the moorland with a brooding sky overhead. Signed & dated lower left 1905.

Complete with later heavy gilt frame.

  

John William Buxton Knight: Landscape Painter & Watercolourist.

Allthough his father William Knight was a landscape painter Buxton Knight was virtually self-taught. Painted in the woods and parks around Sevenoaks, Kent in England.

Exhibited at RA 1861-1907, SS, GG, and NEAC. also at Berlin and Paris Internationals.

Knight's Landscapes are a fusion between the English landscape tradition of Constable, Cox and de Wint, and the techniques of the Barbizon School. One of his finest works "December Landscape" was bought by the Tate Gallery London in 1908.

This Painting which is offered for sale is a superb example of some of his finest.
