013. Sold. Superb Example Brass Bound Jewellery Casket. Early 19th Century


 

An Extraordinary Ladies or Gents Brass Bound Well Figured Rosewood Jewellery Casket, of exceptional quality and unusual design, early Nineteenth Century.

The box is hinged in three places allowing its four parts to open eighter singly or all together. The hinges have enough stiffness for the lids and trays to remain open at various angles, the base having a lead counterweight to prevent it tipping backwards. The interior is lined in red leather and pink satin with a removable free standing mirror which is cedar lined. The locking system is fully functional, original key is present. The lid is inset with a dramatic armorial of a lion standing on a lance over the initials GAC

 

Width: 12.5" (32cm). Depth: 9" (23cm). Height: 6" (15.25cm).
