290. Georgian Silver Gilt Berry Spoons 1806 John Lias II


Extremely Rare Pair of Georgian Silver Gilt Boxed Set of Berry Spoons.

Each oval shaped gilt bowl with fluted rim and embossed with fruit and berries, each long stem with bright cut decoration and vacant cartouch to terminal, offered within their original hinged box.

 

Mark of IL for John Lias II. Assayed in London 1806.

 

Length: (of each spoon) 8.5" (21.5cm).

Combined weight: 3.6ozs. (99 grams).

Casket: Width: 11.75" (30cm). Depth: 4.5" (11.5cm)..

 

Condition: Mint condition, box is of used appearance.

Henry John Lias London Silversmith: The origins of the Lias Silversmith firm date back to 1791 and its founder John Lias. He brought his son, Henry Lias I on as partner in 1818. Henrys brother, Charles, became a partner from 1823 till 1837. Henry Lias II joined his father as partner in 1850. Both father and son created a new partnership in 1879 by joining forces with James Wakely, they traded as Lias & Wakely. By 1884 the Lias family was out and the new trading name was Wakely & Wheeler.

Recent Auction highlights include a Victorian Silver Table Service by John & Henry Lias sold at Bonhams Auction in London on October 2009 for Eur.1685.00. Please view final image.
