An Exceptionally Fine Quality Pair Chinese Famille Rose Hand Painted Porcelain Lamps of Cylindrical Form, third quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
The main body superbly painted in bright coloured enamels of various tones of pinks and greens, depicting Chinese Roses within foliage, each with an Exotic Bird perched in branches all on a white glazed ground with gilt rims. The Lamps are supported on later heavy gauge Ormolu circular supporting bases.
*During the middle of the Nineteenth Century Japan opened its borders to the Western powers, and the native art, hithertofore unknown in Europe, launched a taste for Japanese Art, and re-awoke the taste for the decorative arts in China.
Condition: Good condition, the bronze mounts and bases have been professionally re-gold plated. No restoration. Professionally re-wired for electricity. Back views see image.
